Retro Releases: Queen & The Who

If you love classic rock music and concerts then Eagle Rock Entertainment is currently your best friend.

In the past year they have released countless CDs, DVDs and Blurays that are sure to please any classic rock fan.  Two of my personal favorites are out now and make excellent gifts for that hard to buy for rocker.

First... "Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen LIVE in Budapest" finds the band in peak form on what would be their last tour ever.  This concert is available in multi-formats with the best being the 2 CD/ 1 Bluray set.  This is without a doubt one of the bands best performances from the "Magic Tour."  Filmed on July 27, 1986 in front of 80,000 fans with a set list that is 22 songs strong.  Everything from "Tie Your Mother Down" to "Radio Ga-Ga" if you're a Queen fan it doesn't get any better than this.  Picture, sound and of course the bands stellar performance are all top notch.

Second... "The Who: LIVE in Texas '75."  If you've never seen this seminal band in their heyday then this DVD is a must view.  This show during one of the bands first US shows to support the "Who By Numbers" album.  This concert was never meant for the home video market because at the time there was no such thing.  That being said the audio and video are pretty great after all these years but don't expect this DVD to be pristine.  It is much better than a bootleg but not even close to Bluray quality.  Quality aside the real stars here are The Who.  Roger and Pete sound amazing and even though the video coverage of Keith and John could have been better, this video proves that they were the best rhythm section that rock music has ever heard.

    Drumroll please...

Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen LIVE in Budapest - 10 out of 10 drumsticks!!

The Who: LIVE in Texas '75 - 8 out of 10 drumsticks!!
