Music Review: Melissa Etheridge "4th Street Feeling" CD

For almost a quarter of a century Melissa Etheridge has been wearing her emotions on her sleeve by belting out some of the most heart-felt songs ever recorded.

Songs like "Similar Features," "You Can Sleep While I Drive," "Come To My Window" & "I Want To Come Over" just to name a few.

When I say "a few" I mean it because with a catalogue of 11 studios albums Melissa Etheridge is an American rock'n'roll hero who is every bit as relevant as her male counterparts Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.

Think women don't rock?  Then you have not heard a Melissa Etheridge album or seen her in concert.

On "4th Street Feeling" Etheridge has decided to move away from the pop rock sound of her previous releases,  2007's "The Awakening" and 2010's "Fearless Love"and embrace her inner bluesy soul with an album that would make Bonnie Raitt proud.

Etheridge has chosen to give longtime producers John Shanks and David Cole a break and has hooked up with Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings Of Leon)  and Steve Booker to produce an album that sounds much closer to the sound of her self-titled debut album.

"4th Street Feeling" features stand out tracks such as "Kansas City,"4th Street Feeling" and the one pop sounding song by way of the first single "Falling Up."  The album ends with the sexy "Rock And Roll Me" with Etheridge seductively demanding some physical love.

I have never been a big blues fan but "4th Street Feeling" has enough hooks to keep a pop rocker like myself tapping my foot and singing along and if you like the sound of her first album then "4th Street Feeling" is sure to please.

Drumroll please...  7 out of 10 Drumsticks!!!
