Animal Man Vol. 1: The Hunt Review
Animal Man has always been sort of a cult character, so I was glad to see his return into the mainstream DC continuity post Flashpoint. Animal Man Vol. 1: The Hunt collects the first six issues of the new series.
Buddy Baker makes his return as an actor/super hero/animal rights activist struggling with his public identity. His powers begin to grow stronger, but not without consequences. His young daughter, Maxine begins to develop a similar, yet very different power set. An ancient force connecting all animal life, The Red, is the source of this power, but something deadly is threatening all life as we know it.
Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth) weaves an interesting and intricate tale of this often underestimated character. Coupled with Travel Foreman's (The Immortal Iron Fist) beautifully grotesque images, Animal Man has an amazing style all its own!
Any comic fan will love the new Animal Man story and its stunning visuals. Its only downfall is that there are only the first six issues in this collection and it definitely leaves you hungering for more.
I give Animal Man Vol. 1: The Hunt 9 out of 10 Animals, Man!
