    Blu-Ray Review: Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia:  The Sands of Time

So, I saw this movie in the theater.  I disliked it immensely.  It was laughably bad .  The story was embarrassing, the action dull, the acting was barely serviceable (Ben Kingsley might as well have been a cardboard cutout).

I decided to give the movie a second chance on Blu-ray.  I thought, maybe it will have the same outcome as Halloween 2 where I loathed it (I didn't loath PoP) and didn't loath it quite as much on a second home viewing.  Unfortunately for Prince of Persia, that was not the case.

The film is just as underwhelming as it was before.  It's a boring, by the numbers waste of time and energy.  Jake Gyllenhaal tries his best but honestly, this kind of movie is just not for him.  The only real reason to by this is to just watch him run around in a state of undress.  So shut off the sound and you'll be fine.  He also has zero chemistry with Gemma Atherton, who probably gave the best performance.

The worst offender here is Sir Ben Kingsley who looked as if he was just waiting for the lunch bell to ring and I'm not positive but I think he rolled his eyes every time someone, including himself, delivered a line.

I'm not all that familiar with the games so I can't comment on how close they are.  I did feel like the filmmakers lifted shots directly from another game altogether, Assassin's Creed.  I will say that this in no way makes me want to play the games, and I do happen to own one of them.

I'll give it one thing, it looks spectacular on Blu-ray.  That really is the best I can say about it.  Even the special features are a let down.

Prince of Persia is a silly, uninspired snooze that makes me wish I had my own magic dagger so I can turn back the clock and never see it again.  Twice.

If you are so inclined, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is available now.
