Blue Öyster Cult has always been a tough band to musically classify. It's not quite heavy metal and not always hard rock.
But with song titles such as "Stairway To The Stars," "Astronomy," and "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)" I would personally have to describe them as the purveyors of space age, intergalactic, cosmic rock.
To celebrate the 40 year anniversary of this Long Island, NY band, Sony Legacy has released "The Essential Blue Öyster Cult" 2 CD Collection. This compilation comes on the heels of 5 previous "best of" collections and finally serves as the definitive career-spanning retrospective.
All songs on this collection are the original studio recordings from the band's Columbia Records releases and covers the years 1972 - 1985.
Key tracks include: "Don't Fear The Reaper," "Godzilla," "In Thee," "Veteran Of The Psychic Wars," and "Burnin' For You."
