DVD Review: The Twilight Zone - The Complete Fifth Season

You are now entering a world of sight and sound. The final season of the original Twilight Zone on DVD
Now is the perfect time to wonder what's on the wing of your plane

This 5 DVD set includes 36 episodes, with no special features. But you won't really need any. There are some really great episodes in the set, including many that don't get seen often in syndication. The episode I chose to watch through was "Number 12 Looks Just Like You", a study in a future (2000!) where everyone lives for 200 years and looks the same. There is some unintended hilarity (I'm planning on playing fantasy Super Soccer next season), and a lot of good old Twilight Zone nihilism.

I don't remember Bill being this calm.
Notable members of this final season of the original series include "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" (featuring the iconic performance by William Shatner), "A Kind of Stopwatch", "Living Doll" (with the famous Talky Tina doll), "Night Call", and "The Masks".

Nearly all of these episodes appear to be winners, though, so if you're a fan of The Twilight Zone, and prefer your content on DVD, this is a good one to get. The audio is great, the video clear and accurate. In fact, in the aforementioned "Number 12", the video is so good, you can see the edges of some of the special effects.

    That Will Give You Nightmares.
A Blu-Ray of this series is also being released, but this is a review of the DVD only. To my eye, it's a perfect representation of the series.

I will also take a moment to point out: while having discs of shows you love is starting to sound quaint, unless you have those shows downloaded to a hard drive and backed up, don't take for granted they will be out there. Services like Netflix and Hulu may stream your favorite nostalgia shows, but they may just as likely remove them due to contract negotiations. If you really want to have a show to share with friends or family, or just want to relive them in the future, be sure to have a hard copy and a player and TV to play them on.
