This just in: Drafthouse Films Draws First Blood at SXSW 2013 with ‘Cheap Thrills’ Acquisition.
By Adam Ruhl
Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Drafthouse Films has made the first deal at SXSW2013; picking up the theatrical distribution and video rights to the film ‘Cheap Thrills’. Apparently this came out of a bidding war with several other studios after the movie’s Friday night premiere. I did not cover the film (tragically, I am unable to grow a sufficiently large handle bar mustache to qualify for a SXSW press badge), but the article describes the film as a comedy-thriller about a man accepting escalating bets from a wealthy couple. No trailer yet available but I will update this post when Drafthouse Films releases one.
