Concert Review: Marshall Crenshaw "LIVE" @ The Troubadour, Los Angeles, CA 2/21/2013
Last night I saw something I haven't seen since 1987... Marshall Crenshaw performing LIVE with a full band!
For the past few years most of Marshall's shows in the Los Angeles area have been solo acoustic outings. Having mastered that style of performance it was great to see Crenshaw strap on the electric guitar and cut loose. Backed by "The Guilty Ones" (on loan from headlining act Dave Alvin) Crenshaw tore through a 60 minute set of covers, fan favorites and hit(s).
Guitarist Chris Miller, bassist Brad Porter were perfectly suited to playing Crenshaw's brand of pop rock while Lisa Pinkratz was a revelation behind the drum kit playing with a soulful abandon while keeping the beat rock solid.
Crenshaw seemed to revel in the experience of rocking once again and the packed house of the Troubadour was with him all the way!
Drumroll please... 8 out of 10 drumsticks!!
