Concert Review: Lisa Loeb "LIVE" @ The Bootleg Theatre, Los Angeles, CA 2/20/2013
Last night at the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles Lisa Loeb took the stage to kick off her tour in support of her phenomenal new CD "No Fairy Tale."
Armed with her catalogue of catchy pop tunes and trademark glasses, Loeb cranked out a tight 90 minute set that gave the audience exactly what they wanted... songs, songs, songs! Loeb and her band played 18 tunes that included all of her hits, fan favorites, 6 new songs and a couple audience requests.
The stage itself was sparse and looked very much like a venue Loeb might have played in her struggling artist days; nothing but a brick wall and a single strand of Christmas lights dangling in the background.
Between songs Loeb entertained the crowd with her awkward yet endearing stage patter which covered topics such as ordering food, forgetting people's names and not getting sleep since becoming a parent. She also cajoled the audience to sing the background "Oh, Oh, Oh's" of her new ode to her breakout decade "The 90's."
The band included bassist Joe Quigley, guitarist Jonny Polonsky, keyboardist Juliette Commagere and drummer Ronny Crawford and they were perfectly suited to the punky poppy new songs. Loeb herself alternated between playing acoustic and electric guitars but her smile seemed biggest when she was rocking her electric axe.
