Music Review: Joe Walsh ~ "But Seriously Folks..." Audio Fidelity Gold CD
Joe Walsh has been making music for over 40 years.
As a member of the James Gang and the multiplatinum selling band the Eagles, Joe's signature guitar sound and distinctive vocal style has taken both bands to multiplatinum success.
During all the recording and touring, Walsh was also been able to maintain his wildly popular solo career which has produced 11 albums to date. You can argue which one is best but I would bet that most people would pick his 1978 release "But Seriously Folks..." as a career highpoint.
Released in the summer of 1978, "But Seriously Folks..." reached #8 on the Billboard album charts and scored a top 20 hit with the FM radio staple "Life's Been Good" which climbed to number 12, becoming his biggest solo hit.
It's been 34 years since it's release and fans can finally rejoice because this classic album has been given the remastered treatment from the Audio Fidelity label. Handling the job is engineer Steve Hoffman, who has produced the best sounding version of "But Seriously Folks..." these ears have ever heard.
The album has also held up quite well musically. Tracks like "Over And Over," "Second Hand Store" and "Indian Summer" might be 3 of the best tunes Walsh ever recorded and yet remain ignored by classic rock radio.
Sure there are a few missteps ... 2 instrumentals ("Inner Tube" & "Theme From Boat Weirdos") on an album that clocks in at just over 35:00 minutes might not have been the best use of recording time. But those can "almost" be forgiven since the remaining 6 tracks are so good.
If you already own the original version of "But Seriously Folks..." then it's definitely time for an upgrade.
Drumroll please...
