Scott Pilgrim Vol. 2: vs. The World Color Edition Review

By now everyone knows who Scott Pilgrim is. The successful comic series has been adapted into an awesome film by Edgar Wright and an amazing side scrolling video game.

For the first time (in comic form at least), Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Young Neil, and the rest of the gang are all in color. The colors were done by Nathan Fairbairn (Swamp Thing, Wolverine: Weapon X).

It's cool that the series is finally being released in hardback, but I prefer the black and white editions. I think that if these had been released right before the movie it would have been great. However, I don't think that the color adds anything to the story that we haven't seen in the movie or the video game.

The extras are cool, but not as plentiful as I would have liked. There's an unreleased (and unrelated) Bryan Lee O'Malley comic "Monica Beetle" included along with several character sketches. Also included is a comparison of the real places and the comic drawings from around Toronto. It's cool to read Bryan's notes as to why he chose those places for the comic.

Overall, the Scott Pilgrim color editions are cool, but the don't bring anything new to the table. I would have rather just had a hardback edition of the original black and white.

Scott Pilgrim Vol. 2: vs. The World Color Edition is a 6 out of 10 Evil Exes!
