Mad Men Season 5 DVD Review
After a long hiatus, Mad Men finally returned this past year with the highly anticipated Season 5. If you missed this season, you're in luck because the DVD is out now!
All 13 episodes are included on this 4 disc set. I have to say, that after the 17 month hiatus, I expected a better crop of episodes. The season is good, but it's not the best one by any means.
The special features on this season are plentiful, but have little to do with the show:
-Mad Men Say the Darndest Things: A look back at the greatest one-liners of the show.
-What Shall I Love if Not the Enigma?: A look into the life and artwork of Giorgio de Chirico, the artist behind the season 5 poster
-The Party of the Century: A look into Truman Capote's infamous Black & White Masquerade Ball
-Scoring Mad Men: Inside a Session
-The Uniform Time Act of 1966: A look at the history of Daylight Savings Time
-Newsweek Magazine Digital Gallery: A selection of 1966 Newsweek covers from around the world.
-Episode Commentaries
I would rather see some "Making of" or "Anatomy of a scene" featurettes instead of the ones that seem to belong on a History Channel DVD set. It's almost like they were grabbing anything to try and fill space.
This is a must have for anyone who loves the show and has the other 4 seasons on DVD. If you're looking to just watch the episodes you missed (Dish customers), I'd suggest just renting the season.
Mad Men Season 5 DVD is a 6 out of 10 Pitches!
