"Green Lantern: Extended Cut" Blu-Ray hits your retail shelves today. If you liked the movie when it was in theaters last summer then you are in for a treat.
"Green Lantern: Extended Cut" might just be the best looking Blu-Ray I have seen this year. The colors pop and the mythical planet Oa actually looks brighter and sharper than it did on the big screen.
The Blu-Ray is loaded with extras: deleted scenes, a sneak peek at the upcoming "Green Lantern" animated series, Justice League #1 digital comic and "The Universe According To Green Lantern" which gives you an inside look at this iconic hero.
The "Extended Cut" version is only available on the Blu-Ray edition of the film and it adds 8 minutes to the original running time. The extra 8 minutes is mostly front loaded and helps to flesh out the backstory of Green Lantern to be ... Hal Jordan.
Ryan Reynolds' portrayal of the reluctant superhero Hal Jordan is fun, charming and heroic. His performance is filled with a wonderment that makes the audience feel exactly what a person in his unique circumstance would be feeling.
The rest of the cast is excellent as well and includes the voices of Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean & The King's Speech) as Tomar-Re and Michael Clarke Duncan (Daredevil & The Green Mile) as Kilowog and of course Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes & Kick-Ass) who is 100% perfect as Sinestro. Be sure to stay for a Sinestro end-credit sequence that will have you cheering with excitement!
For purists, the theatrical version is also included with the "Extended Cut" and will have the faithful comparing both versions to see which one is better. For me it is definitely the "Extended Cut." A sense of humor, state of the art special effects, a great cast, script and direction make "Green Lantern: Extended Cut" the perfect home video movie.
Drumroll please... 9 out of 10 Lanterns!!
