DVD Review: "Superman / Batman Apocalypse"

Warner Brothers and the DC Universe are on a hot streak. Coming off of last summer's exceptional direct-to-DVD release "Batman: Under The Red Hood," DC is back with "Superman / Batman Apocalypse."

To make it even more exciting, Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy return as the voices of "The Man Of Steel" and "The Dark Knight." But this isn't a Batman / Superman story. It's really a Supergirl origin story with a little Wonder Woman thrown in just to amp up the action even more. Now I'm not going to get into specifics of the story but if you ever wanted to see superheroes bleed, Supergirl refer to Batman as "grumpy ass" and Superman express his annoyance with Wonder Woman, then this movie is for you.

I really can't say enough good things about this - and all the direct-to-DVD DC Universe releases - because the team behind these movies nail it every time. They just "get it" and that's because they themselves are fans and have respect for the mythology of these iconic characters.

Everything just clicks… the stories, the dialogue and the action all add up to movies that give us fans exactly what we want. These movies are so good that I cannot believe Warner Brothers doesn't use this team of writers, directors and producers on their live action movies. If they did then maybe we wouldn't have to sit through dreck like "Jonah Hex."

So do yourself a favor… check out "Superman / Batman Apocalypse" and then work your way back through all the other titles… you will not regret it.

    Drumroll please… 10 out of 10 drumsticks!!
