CD Review: Sky Sailing - An Airplane Carried Me To Bed

Before Owl City, Adam Young was crafting tunes in his parents basement under the name Sky Sailing
After the success of Owl City, it was decided that Sky Sailing would come out of the cellar and into the light for Young's ravenous fans to devour.

So how does it measure up?

If you read the site regularly, you'll know that we had Owl City as our best of 2009 so we have high hopes for Sky Sailing.

Turns out those hopes are met.  The album is pretty great.

Sky Sailing is not all that different from Owl City.  In fact, it sounds like an acoustic Owl City album.  The same ethereal feeling and dreamy lyrics are present as is Young's captivating voice.  What's missing is the bleeps and boops of the electronic pop synth sort of sound of Owl City

Instead, Sky Sailing uses acoustic guitar, piano and at one point an acordian which adds up to a dreamy, close your eyes and sail away kind of album.

Detractors of Owl City and Adam Young aren't likely to be swayed but fans of his other works will be captivated from the start.

Adam Young has a beautiful way with words and he spins such wonderful songs.  Sky Sailing is a perfect example of his talent.  I really enjoyed this album and want to hear more.  Not just more from Sky Sailing but more fron Young period.  He is a great talent and I can't wait to hear what he brings us next.

Sky Sailing's debut album, An Airplane Carried Me To Bed is available on iTunes now, and everywhere tomorrow.
