Peter Jackson announced today via facebook that The Hobbit is now a trilogy. He mentioned too much story would go untold if they did not add a third film.
The third sequel is entitled "The Hobbit 3: The Search for More Money" (TY Mel Brooks)
It looks like the third movie is going to hit in 2014 but I don't know how accurate that is.
