August Burns Red - Leveler CD Review

Leveler, the fourth studio album by August Burns Red hits stores today and it is amazing! The follow up album to 2009’s Constellations builds upon everything the previous album had to offer. Jason Suecof, who produced Constellations, returns as producer along with the band themselves sharing the credit.

The whole album, despite tweaking musical styles between each song, the whole album is cohesive and just flows together. “Internal Cannon,” the second track, is great with a weird salsa-influenced guitar riff that takes a bit to adjust to, but after a few listens it really fits and makes you dig it! Another favorite on the album is the interlude “1/16/2011” which transitions perfectly into “Boys of Fall.” Probably my two favorite songs on the album are right in a row “Salt & Light” and “Poor Millionaire.” Both of these songs hit heavy and really grabbed me as soon as I started listening to them.

One thing I love about August Burns Red is their album covers, which are complexly simple. Leveler does not disappoint. It features a leveled house with an odd, yet fitting color palette.

The native Pennsylvania band has always had this way of blending genres and trying something new that works! August Burns Red never ceases to amaze their fans by creating their own sound and a unique, respected voice within the metal community.

I give Leveler 8 out of 10 leveled houses!
