In 1987 George Michael released his first and arguably best solo album. Now… you can tell me you're not a Wham fan and you can tell me you're not a George Michael fan but if you try to tell me that your foot doesn't start tapping when you hear the opening guitar riff of the title track "Faith" then you, sir, are a LIAR!
Faith was the perfect late 80's album and with his tight jeans, leather jacket and perfectly groomed 5 o'clock shadow George Michael was the perfect pop star. But George was more triple-threat than pin-up boy. On "Faith" he not only sang but wrote all 10 tracks and produced the entire album. Definitely a talent to be reckoned with. All his efforts paid off as "Faith" went on to sell close to 30 million units worldwide and producing 6 top 5 singles… 4 of which went to #1.
So how does "Faith" fare in 2011? For me the production seems a little dated and the crystal clear sound of this new remastered edition sometimes sounds a bit sterile. But, if listened to with your ears firmly planted in a pair of giant 80's headphones, "Faith" delivers the goods. From catchy dance pop like "I Want Your Sex" and "Monkey" to big power ballads like "One More Try" and "Father Figure" this CD is like a time machine that takes you right back to the era when fashion was bad but MTV was still good.
Michael Jackson may have been the self proclaimed "King Of Pop" -- but from the Fall of 1987 to the Summer of 1988 George Michael was commanding the throne.
