Blu-ray Review: Let Me In

Well our own Ryan reviewed this movie when it came out in theaters and he pretty much hit the nail on the head.  Head over and read that review.  I'll concentrate mainly on the blu-ray aspect with some points I wanted to make about the film itself as well.

The biggest negative in this is the ridiculously bad CGI used in the attack scenes (of which there are only a couple.   It's pretty awful and immediately sucks you right out of the film.  It doesn't take long to get sucked back in but when compared to the original attack scenes it's almost shocking as to how bad they look.  No idea why they didn't just do it for real as in the original.  Certainly couldn't have cost anything more.  I think they thought they were amping it up if they had her leaping around like some kind of animal.  Instead, it looks like a deleted scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Aside from that, I really enjoyed the movie. I liked the way they reordered things a bit.  Sort of pushed the suspense up a little knowing that something was coming but not knowing exactly when or how.  The car wreck scene is pretty incredible.

The film looks great on Blu-ray.  It's a dark film and the shadows are nice a deep.  The special features are pretty standard if not a bit wanting.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Let Me In.  It's a very successful remake that does justify it's existence.  Did we need it?  No, but I'm glad we got it.  Hats off to Matt Reeves.  He pulled off what no one thought he could do.  Make a remake that's just as good as it's original.
