Victor Crowley Lives.  And kills A LOT of people in A LOT of insane ways.  10 Foot (est.) Chainsaw anyone?

Adam Green returns to the bayou and starts Hatchet 2 right where its predecessor left off as lone survivor Marybeth (Danielle Harris) escapes the swamp.  It doesn't take long for her to decide to return to retrieve he father and brothers bodies.  She seeks help from Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd) and learns of her family's  connection to the Victor Crowley legend.

What follows is a blood bath of wicked kills and a hell of a lot of fun.  Now, I'm not one for torture porn and I can tell you neither of the Hatchet movies fall into that category.  The violence is so over the top that it cannot possibly be considered realistic.  To be honest, I can't fathom what the big deal is and why there is such a controversy with the MPAA.  I suspect it has to do with Hatchet not being the product of a major studio.   Controversy!

Hatchet 2 is a wonderful tribute to the slashers of yesteryear.  It does so with a wink and a nod and never once takes itself to seriously.  It's over the top, funny, scary and the kills are insane.  I hinted at one of them earlier but fear not, I won't reveal any of them here.  They must be seen, no, experienced.  They will have you yelping and pointing at the screen in awe.

Hatchet 2 is a film that is full of horror icons.  They come out of the wood works.  Tony Todd (Candyman), Kane Hodder (Jason Vorhees), R.A. Mihailoff (Leatherface) to name a few and then we have Danielle Harris who is probably the only bona fide scream queen left (Jamie Lee Curtis excluded).    Every one does great stuff here and the final scene with Danielle is pretty awesome.

In most of these types of films you don't really get an explanation as to how or why things are happening.  You get a bit of an origin but not really how these maniacs become their indestructible selves.  Adam Green has given us one here and it's one I find to be extremely interesting.  I won't go into details but it really sparked my curiosity and I asked my self why no one has never thought of this before.

On blu-ray, the film is gorgeous.  Crystal clear picture and crisp deep sound.  Makes the splats of gore hitting the ground that much more effective.  There are plenty of features to keep you busy with a lot of cool info in there.

Adam Green has shown himself to be an extremely capable director in the genre.  He's done the over the top fun of a slasher homage with Hatchet and the horrifying it could totally happen stuff of Frozen, which is an absolute must see film.  I really think he is one to keep an eye on, and not just in the horror genre.  I think we'll see great things from him in the future.

    Hatchet 2 is available now!
