    TV Review: An Idiot Abroad

Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington bring their Sky1 series An Idiot Abroad to American audiences via The Science Channel starting on Saturday, 1/22 at 10pm (a preview episode precedes the premiere at 9:30) with an 8-part series.  Gervais calls it "the most elaborate practical-joke-turned-sociology-experiment in television history."  Having seen the first episode, I can say it is certainly one of the funniest.

The debut episode has Karl jetting off to China and experiencing the Great Wall, Kung-Fu and toads.  It's extremely funny to watch and Karl might just be the most honest TV personality around.  It's quite refreshing.

If you are familiar with The Ricky Gervais Show than you know all about Karl and his antics.  If you aren't familiar, then I will let you meet him all on your own or you can do yourself a favor and get your hands on that hilarious podcast (or its HBO counterpart).  Karl is the same old Karl from the shows.  His new found fame doesn't seem to have changed him in the least.

An Idiot Abroad takes Karl so far out of his element that it's almost shocking.  His reactions to certain things happening around him are so genuinely funny that the laughter is almost painful.

This is a short review because I really don't want to mention anything that happens in this first episode, more than I already hinted at at least.  It's really worth a watch especially if you want to laugh.

Join Karl Pilkington as he starts his journey as An Idiot Abroad TOMORROW, Saturday,  on The Science Channel.

An Idiot Abroad is our Pop Culture Beast MUST WATCH SHOW of the week.
