Arcade Fire Launches Interactive Video for New Song

"The Wilderness Downtown" is an interactive film by Chris Milk featuring Arcade Fire's "We Used to Wait" and was built with HTML5.  Instead of producing a tradition music video, the band decided to create an interactive experience for the viewer.

Built for Google Chrome, "The Wilderness Downtown"  asks the viewer to enter it's childhood home address and then begins it's journey.  It may not seem like much, but when it's woven into the story it has a big impact. Also, later in the video you are asked to write your childhood self a note (So that maybe you could change your future).  Text or art, whatever you draw in the window, becomes a part of the video and at the end you can send it to friends to invite them to the experience.

It will be interesting to see the different ways that HTML5 will be used, but for now this is an great demonstration of the possibilities that it could hold for music alone. For other Google Experiments, click here.
Go and experience "The Wilderness Downtown" today.  The only catch is that you have to have Google Chrome, but the download is worth it.

After hearing this, I'm definitely going to check out Arcade Fire's new album.
