For the past few years, DC has dominated the world of Animated comic features. Marvel has made attempts to close the gap but in terms of quality and success, DC has remained supreme.
Planet Hulk is a giant step towards closing that gap but it's not the one that will topple DC from it's throne. Marvel has some of the best characters but for some reason has been using second stringers for their films. Why we haven't seen an X-Men animated film yet is beyond me.
If there was any Hulk storyline that'd make for a great movie Planet Hulk is it, especially since it leads to what would make for a great sequel film: World War Hulk. The film is pretty fun and a good adaptation of the comics (some minor changes had to be made). It's uber violent is really has Hulk doing what he does best. Hats off to Marvel for going with a cast of unknowns for the voice work and not relying on gimmicky casting to support the film
Some of the characters get a little annoying but for the most part the film is a great watch.
On Blu-ray it looks great. The colors are bright and clear bringing each scene to vibrant life. The sound is incredible as the battles thunder through all surround speakers. My problem is the special features, while appearing plentiful, don't really offer much in the way of content. There are commentaries but no one I'm particularly interested in hearing from. There are music videos (unnecessary), Motion Comics (kind of interesting) and a look at the next Marvel Animated Feature: Thor: Tales of Asgard which I have absolutely zero interest in seeing.
Fans of The Hulk will love this movie and fans of the epic Planet Hulk story line will be pleased as well. Hopefully, Marvel will step up to the plate and give us some truly iconic characters in their upcoming films.
