ABC Boots Grey's Anatomy Actress!!

Shocking news from Michael Ausiello as he is reporting that the brilliant Brooke Smith has been fired from her role as Dr. Erica Hahn on Grey's Anatomy. Her final episode airs this week. The character had recently become involved with another female doctor on the show and was providing one the this seasons best storylines, which I guess wasn't sitting well with the powers that be. Word is that the suits at ABC demanded the character removed.

She is one of my favorite characters on the show and to see this kind of treatment is downright appaling. How can you expect a show to flourish creatively and naturally when you have suits demaning characters be yanked from the show without so much as an explanation?

ABC made a huge mistake with this one. I'm more than a little disgusted with this to be honest.

UPDATE: It appears that ABC is asking that all the story lines involving gay characters be ditched. Melissa George was slated to appear as a bisexual character it now seems as though that isn't going to happen or at least not to the extent as originally planned. Seems like there may be more at play here than dislike of one character. This is pretty shocking. Shame on ABC.
