Well, it's coming to DVD anyway. But the kicker is they are releasing 2 versions of the film. One would guess that one of the versions is the reportedly disastrous recut that completely eliminates the emotional core of the movie. The other version is the original version that fans have rallied behind in recent weeks, sending over 300,000 letters to the Weinstein Company.
Granted, there is no release date set yet and there is still exploration of a theatrical release (for both versions as well). We'll see what happens.
Personally, I've been waiting for this movie for 2 years. The first trailer was hilarious. When I heard they were trying to get rid of the cancer subplot, I was shocked. That seemed to be such an integral part of the movie. It's the reason the characters do what they do. Taking that out sort of cheapens the story if you ask me.
I'm glad we'll get to see the original, true version of the film.
