    Who is Beautiful?

You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is
incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and
lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture.

The intention behind this project is to reach beyond
ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating
moments of positive self realization. We're just attempting
to make the world a little better.

Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are
Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Nothing is sacred.
Everything that has a perceived value becomes
commodified. We work extremely hard that this message
is received as a simple act of kindness, and nothing more.

Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project
elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You
Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism.

You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and
commercialization to spread a positive message.
Projects like these make a difference in the world by
catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments
    of positive self realization.

Normally, I put pictures at the head of my posts. This time however I have put the mission statement for an intriguing project called You Are Beautiful. It is a worldwide sort of art project where people take the phrase You Are Beautiful and display it for every one to see. This is done with stickers, strings, or anything else your imagination can come up with.

It is in the same sort of curious mass movement vein as the Free Hugs campaign (most famously seen in a Dave Matthews Band video, now seen all over you tube) and Post Secret. These sort of things seem to effect me in interesting ways. I look at these projects and can't help but be captivated by them. This type of thing doesn't seem to be real in the types of society we live in today. It is things like this that really shine the light on what makes us human. No matter where you are from, what color you are, who you love. A project like this allows one to hold onto the fact that human beings really do care about each other even if it doesn't seem like it some of the time. Most of us anyway.

Interested in getting involved in this? Visit http://you-are-beautiful.com and have a look around. Do your own You Are Beautiful project and send it in to them. If you do so, let us know so we can cover it here as well.
