    Radin Live (2 Weeks ago)

I wanted to do do a quick write up on the Joshua Radin concert from 4/21 at the El Rey Theatre. It is a bit late obviously but wanted to get the word out and maybe turn some folks on to Joshua and Schuyler Fisk.
Concert was held at the El Rey Theatre. I've never been there before and was pleasantly surprised. It's a small intimate venue, just a few seats on the sides, the rest is standing room only. Nice place.
I attended with my friend Colette, of destructoid.com, as she is a major JR fan and asked me to come along. I knew him but wasn't a huge fan, just enjoyed his music. That of course changed by the end of the show. On with it...We arrived, made an attempt, unknowingly, to get into the VIP section were sent away in shame and headed down to the main area. The show started a few minutes later with Schuyler Fisk who I became an instant fan of as soon as she opened her mouth. Sweet sweet voice and great tunes. She has a CD coming out soon so if you see it, grab it. Incidentally, she is Sissy Spacek's daughter. We discovered this after noticing Sissy was singing harmony with her. Who expects to see Sissy Spacek singing?
After Schuyler finished up her great set Joshua came on. He's got the john Mayer Jason Mraz sound just with all acoustic guitar. He's got a quiet smooth voice and some excellent lyrical skills. It was a great great show and I was glad to have gone. I went from just knowing of him to being a fan on the strength of his performance. Very mellow tunes but accessible. Probably not for fans of rock but if you like light folk music then you'll enjoy him.
Give him a listen on ITunes or myspace.
